I love fast simple recipes and this two ingredient dough sticks recipe is certainly fast and simple.  Not only that but it’s versatile and can be used for different side accompaniments.

This time I used it to make garlic dough sticks which are reminiscent of the salads you get in pizza restaurants. Or you could have them with soup, or just to dunk in a dip.

Alternatively you can make the dough into small dinner rolls, pretzel knots or other simple, smallish bread based dishes. You wouldn’t get enough rise to be able to make a full loaf, but the dough does rise a little bit thanks to the self raising flour.

The two ingredient dough recipe really is easy. You need self raising flour and greek yoghurt.

That’s it.

Obviously you can add whatever topping or seasoning you want. But the basic dough is just flour and yoghurt.

It has to be self raising flour because that’s where you get the raising agent in.

For the yoghurt, it’s definitely Greek yoghurt you need. Not Greek style. Just normal plain greek yoghurt – I use full fat, but you can use low fat if you prefer.

For equipment you only need a baking sheet, either lightly greased or with baking parchment on.

Two ingredient dough sticks

Prep time 5 mins
Cook time 20 mins
Serves 3-4

Ingredients

  • 150g self raising flour
  • 250ml greek yoghurt

Optional

  • 1 tbsp melted butter (or olive oil)
  • ¼ to ½ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan and grease or line your baking sheet

2. In a mixing bowl, mix the yoghurt and flour, stirring until combined. If the dough looks too sticky, add another tbsp gradually of flour and keep mixing. You may need to increase more flour until it becomes a ball of dough you can work with.

3. On a lightly floured surface, knead until the dough is smooth

4. You have 2 choices. Either roll out (using a floured rolling pin) the dough into a rectangular shape, then cut into strips.  Or divide the dough into 8-10 pieces, roll out into sausage shapes.  I opted for cutting into strips.

5. Lay each one onto your baking sheet.

6. Sprinkle the garlic powder into the melted butter, then brush over the top of each breadstick.

7. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until the breadsticks are lightly golden on top.  You should be able to pick one up and tap the bottom to make a slightly hollow sound to know when they’re done.

  1. Ohh! I do like the sound of these and the fact that they only use 2 ingredients is a bonus. I think I need to try making these, they would be great for soup. x
