Re-live your youth with Singalong Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Why is it that you always get exciting and fun events clashing?  Especially I was contacted about an event being held to celebrate 50 years of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.

As a child, like so many others, I read lots of Roald Dahl books, and of course Charlie and the Chocolate Factor was always on tv so you get to know it really well.  It really was a magical world full of fun characters and let’s face it, chocolate!  No wonder I ended up working for a confectionery company for a few years.

To celebrate the 50 years, a charity event is being held at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square, London, on 29thJune at 1pm.  The profits from the singalong screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will help Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity support seriously ill and disabled children in the UK.  The charity supports young people through specialist children’s nurses, research and family grants, so a great charity to support.

It promises to be a real family fun event, with audience members having the opportunity to meet one of the film’s original ten Oompa Loompas, Rusty Goffe.

On top of the screening, there’s also free ‘magic moments’ packs and lots of interaction.  Of course, who could resist dressing up for the occasion – there’ll be prizes for the best fancy dress (get out that tangerine tan to become an oompa loompa).  Plus there’ll be 5 Golden Tickets to be won to the award-winning Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden, Bucks.

You can get tickets from the box office at the Prince Charles Cinema and tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £15 for children, or family tickets at £60 (for 2 adults and 2 children).   But, if you’re quick you can enter to win a family ticket over on Facebook.  The closing date is Thursday 19th June.  All the details can be found over at the Roald Dahl Charity Facebook page.

If you go, hope you have a great time, and let me know how it was.

Who was your favourite character in Charlie and the Chocolate factory?  Mine was Violet because I was never allowed to have gum when I was a child!

Disclosure: I chose to write this post to tell you about the event and good cause.  I received some books as a thank you.
