Project 52 2025 week 50
Christmas has entered our house, in a quiet way – I can’t reach the light switch, so am reliant on N being around to turn them on. Christmas cards are written and posted, so now just to do my food order and wrap the presents. We’re nearly there. Here’s week 50 of Project 52.
Sunday – vacuumed and dusted, then put up the Christmas tree. Well, N got the tree out and in place, did a bit of fluffing, then added some lights before realising it was too hard and handing the job over to me. Usually I only buy 1-2 new decorations each year, but this year I went a bit over the top – I had more than I realised, but they are lovely.(although the back of the tree has virtually none on – noone will see anyway.
Strictly was a shocker – the 2 best dancers by miles, Amber and Lewis ending up in the dance off with Lewis going. I’m gutted because I’d have loved to have seen their showdance in the final. There’s been so much backlash against both of them being trained dancers, but Balvinder’s the one who has had some ballroom and latin classes before. Only George is the non dancer. As far as I’m concerned I prefer watching the amazing dancers, I’m glad this time we were left with the best dancers til this week. But wish the public wouldn’t be so anti previous ‘dancers’ when only some get picked on and not always fairly. There’s no rules in Strictly to say they can’t be in it and you need a mix otherwise just rubbish people on a journey would be dull as ditchwater.
Monday – work as usual. Prepped dinner at lunchtime, but managed to cut a flap out of my thumb. Being on warfarin is always interesting, but luckily it didn’t bleed for too long being an extremity I could hold up. I couldn’t find any steri-strips I thought I had, so asked my brother to check the shop next door but none there. A plaster it was, and that’ll do for the mo.
Tuesday – busy work day. Postbox at the village post office was pretty much full when I bought my stamps and posted my Christmas cards. Luckily the postman was just arriving to empty it. Evening dancing was good. Quite busy considering it’s close to Christmas, and still more newbies turning up with only 1 more week left til Christmas and starting new dances in January.
Wednesday – busy work day again, and a bit of a headache in the background all day. Had a hygienist appointment. Shudder. I hate going. The point was that it would mean only going annually for my dentist check up instead of 9 monthly, and having the hygienist inbetween. But I seem to be being booked in 6 monthly for both which is costing me a fortune, so I’m trying to move it back to annually. Except somehow I’ve come out with a June and December appointment so I’ll have to ring to cancel the June one. It doesn’t help when the dentist appointments always seem to be moved as well, then the appointments all get out of sync. Chippy tea because I could pick it up on the way home from my appointment.
Thursday – very early start to catch the train into London for work meetings and work’s 25 years celebrations. It was nice to meet lots of new people and people I’ll be working with in the new year. But I had to dash off fast afterwards and only just caught the train back with 1 minute to go. I just wish I’d been able to go to my local office instead. Less rushing around, less knackered, and less headachy from all the overheated travel and lack of water. Miraculously because I’d caught the train I wanted, and the car park/road hell out of the station car park didn’t happen, I managed to make it to dancing. A bit zonked out though, but it was good to ease out the legs after standing on the train.
Friday – busy work day, things definitely aren’t getting quieter before Christmas unfortunately. My planned tea turned out not to be a goer, so I might try that another day. So we headed into town to pick up a pizza from Sainsbury’s for tea. N’s leg hurt, so he didn’t go to tennis.
Saturday – busy morning getting to various places needing to buy bits and pieces. I wish our town had everything in one place in the centre, but nope, I need to get in the car to various retail parks, centre and then out of town. Ridiculously Boots doesn’t sell steri strips, so I’m going to have to get some online as my cut keeps getting caught and I keep picking at it. Got 2 lots of washing done, made potato dauphinoise to go with tea as well as an apple crumble. Then finally managed to sit down around 3pm.

New blog posts this week:
Things I’ve enjoyed this week:
- Catching up with and meeting new colleagues (although it was too much time for the introverts amongst us, of which there were a lot)
- New bauble additions to the Christmas tree
- Watching our town’s livestreamed Christmas tractor run with N and the OH.
Things I’m grateful for this week:
- No seeming issues with my nearly chopping my thumb tip off, despite being on warfarin
- A nice message from my cousin after getting my Christmas card, especially given she’s approaching a tough time a year on.
- Having done all my Christmas shopping (I think)
- Getting to my dance class – just made the train with about a minute to go.

We had the tree in a new place this year and had to spread the decorations around it as we could see 3/4s of it, I had to resist the temptation to not buy any new ones to go on it. I have to go to 3 different parts of Malvern to get everything I need. The main town for the decent post office where they know what they’re doing and B&M, the retail park and down into the link for my pharmacy.
Frustrating when shopping isn’t it. When they want to reduce traffic but then you’re forced to different places, and it takes forever!
Lovely to have the tree up. I was shocked by the dance-off between Lewis and Ambert too. I’m with you on needing to have a mix of abilities on Strictly and it does seem to be inconsistent who gets picked on for having previous dance training. I hate hygienist appointments as well. Hope you manage to get your appointments back in sync. Hope your cut heals quickly. #project365
It seems the dentist practice is trying to get more money by making more appointments. That reflects very poorly on them. Also Boost not selling steri strips is strange. As a pharmacy they have loads of shampoos, but not something for wounds. I hope the finger is better now.
I wish you a happy Christmas.
Oh you had a busy week and so ready for Christmas and the holiday season!

It sounds like you are all prepared for Christmas and can now sit back and enjoy it all once you finish work.
I did the same thing to my thumb preparing a casserole yesterday; it’s in an awkward place, so a plaster wouldn’t stay on.
I saw some videos of the Christmas tractors, and they looked amazing, very festive indeed.
It sounds like you are just about ready for Christmas!
Ahh! I don’t decorate the back of our tree either, there’s no point when no one see’s it.
Strictly was a bit shocking, he was by far one of the best dancers in the show this year but I suppose it all came down to them being trained dancers. In the celeb world most people have had some sort of training.
My eldest had an argument with the dentist, they were trying to force 6 monthly appointments on her and they do cost a small fortune. She hasn’t needed any treatment for years so she said to them either put her to a year or take her off their books. She is now being seen once a year.
Our town is the same with everything scattered all over the place on retail parks. It is such a faff when we rely on public transport.
That’s lucky she wasn’t kicked off their books. I’d be better off going for 9 monthly dentist visits but it is nice to know they’ve had a full clean/scrape! My hygienist appointment was £85, as you pay the deposit up front, then the rest when done. So it’s over double a normal check up.
