Project 52 2025 week 25
Urgh, I hate hot weather. Thankfully where I work is quite cool as it doesn’t get the sun til late afternoon. Otherwise I’d have to go into the office more for the air conditioning! The week’s been largely full of illness and pain, so it’s not been the best. Here’s our week 25 for Project 52.
Sunday – N’s temperature had come down thankfully and he was up and about-ish. He came into town with me to get a new bin (exciting times in our house!), and to the farmshop for some meat. Otherwise, we spent the day relaxing at home. My throat was really sore too, but hopefully on Monday we’ll both be feeling better. The annoying thing with being ill is that I still have to make a roast even though 2 out of 3 of us would be happy with something simpler. At least a roast means leftover meat for 1-2 further meals.
Monday – child off school (slept a lot) and I felt a bit rough with the cold too, and spent all day with one ear blocked – sounding like I was in a swimming pool. OH comes in for lunch when child is home, so makes 12 noon meetings harder. I have to wear my headphones which the foam seems to be disintegrating! Must see if work will give me some replacement ones. PTSA meeting in the evenings and we’ve finally got some new recruits…well in September.
Tuesday – day 2 off school, he didn’t seem to be getting much better. I was still coldy too but at least my ear unblocked. I didn’t go dancing because I felt too rough. It was nice that my friend I met there messaged me to see if I was ok because I’d not been for 2 weeks.
Wednesday – day 3 off school. Getting slightly better during the day, but then rough at night. A covid test was negative. Missed football training ahead of the tournament. Had a cow out in the field for weeks waiting for it to have its calf. They reckoned it was 10 weeks overdue which sounded wrong. So we didn’t expect it to live, and to have a painful birth with intervention. Yes they had to pull it out, but a live calf and mum was ok too. And it wasn’t a giant calf either. Now just to wait for the other one in the field to calve hers too.
Thursday – N still didn’t make it to school. I was in Birmingham for our annual work conference and luckily was feeling well enough to go. After 6 days of a horrible cold you’d think it would be gone before then. Birmingham was hot, muggy but we did get to see some cool architecture as we were in the Rep Theatre next to the library. The train journey in was fine as we got seats. But I decided against staying for drinks as I was exhausted and not feeling too great.
I managed to get the 5.03 train, which promptly told us before the 1st stop that there were issues at Oxford and it wouldn’t be going past Coventry. I decided to get off in the hope of getting a Chiltern train (then realising it didn’t go via there), and another lady going to Banbury got off too. She’s been travelling since 1 o’clock in York. Should have had a direct train and been back by 4, but was onto her 3rd train. There were closures and delays on pretty much every train, but thankfully we only had an hour to wait for the next which ended up only 30 mins delayed with congestion waiting outside Banbury. Didn’t get back til 7.20. And then galling to bump into a colleague in the car park, who’d arrived back before our train despite getting the 17.34 that I thought I’d have ended up getting. Sigh.
Because I was going through town at the right time I tried Too Good To Go app for the first time at a Co-op I quite often go to. £2.99 for a bakery bag. It would have been ok if they’d not been reducing the pastries down to 30p each anyway. I reckon I’d have got a better deal just paying normally. I only got 2 small baguettes, 2 croissants, and 1 each maple & pecan pastry, almond croissant. So it was ok to reduce waste, but wasn’t the great bargain they state. I’ll have to try some other places instead.
Friday – N finally went back to school. His back is hurting though – it came on in the night – probably because he’s been lying down so much compared to normal. So no back to tennis.
Saturday – Quick trip to the bakery stall in town, then off to a haircut for N. Dozily we got home before I realised I’d left my Kindle there, so had to call and ask them to find it and hold it til I could pick it up. Dropped N and his cousin off at the pool they used to swim at for the open swim session. Their old swimming teacher recognised them, and the lifeguard turned out to be our friends’ son. I did the Kindle pick up then loitered waiting for them. I was on baking duty for the football tournament on Sunday. N’s back was better after the swim, but then he went out on his bike/the tractor and it’s in agony again. So a request for a 111 callback and we’ll see what they advise. He’s struggling to sit/lie/sleep so it’s not great. And having just had nearly a week off school ill, we don’t really want him off having to get to the doctors.

No new posts this week.
Things I’ve enjoyed this week:
- Seeing lots of work colleagues
- The arrival of our bargain pizza oven (I used survey money, cashback, and various other vouchers I had)
- Seeing the newer cool architecture in Birmingham
Things I’m grateful for this week:
- N has got over his illness
- New parents wanting to join the PTSA (thankfully!)
- Tried a gingerbread traybake as it doesn’t need icing like the usual lemon one, so no panic if it’s really hot at the tournament.
I am not a fan of this hot weather either! Ugh!
Oh no! Sorry about all the illness! I hope N is doing better now.
I am glad the cow and calf were OK, what a worry.
What an awful journey home from the work conference.
