Project 52 2025 week 22

It’s been a lovely week off this week, although of course it’s gone too fast. We were in Cornwall, then back home and things were quite busy when home. I’m still pretty tired as I feel like I’ve not got much sleep, so I definitely need to get back to being asleep by 11.15 rather than reading for longer. Here’s my week 22 of Project 52.

Sunday – busy day. Started wet and an early walk over the causeway and back to St Michael’s Mount. We were a bit early to get tickets onto the island, so decided to just go for a drive around further round the coast instead. We ended up at Lands End just to say we’d been, although forgot to actually take a photo of us there! Then a quick and easy meal deal lunch before getting swimming gear for a swim in the main pool at the Jubilee Pool which is the seawater lido. Brr it was freezing. And seemed so hard to swim with the wind making currents in the pool. N with no fat on him found it too cold, so we didn’t stay in long. An amazing place and experience, but I won’t be taking up wild swimming!

We ate out for dinner meeting my friend and her family, and having a good catch up before heading back to their airbnb. We stopped in at the arcade for a bit before heading back to the hotel.

Monday – much better weather than expected with blue skies and sun most of day until the wind got up and there was a little rain in the evening. We dropped into the gorgeous cove of Porthcurno Beach, before heading to PK Communications which is a museum all about the telegraph communications centre and how it was part of the war and changed since then. It was a really interesting place, and we stayed longer than planned, so didn’t have time to get to the tin mines like I’d hoped to. In the afternoon we met my friend and her family and most of us played Footgolf. It was much harder than anticipated, but good fun.  Then back for a quick go on the arcade and to choose our ticket prizes, before a breather at the hotel and out for a meal with our friends.

Tuesday – I’d planned to stop off at National Trust somewhere on the way home but the rain and wind was horrible, so we just got going home. N was very pleased about that. Got back in 5 hours with a lunch stop which was really good going.

I made the mad decision to go dancing. None of my main friends were there, so it felt a bit flat with noone to lift up my tiredness. I did stay for the 2 classes which was a good thing. I managed to do the 2 dances I’d had to teach myself online, so now that’s all dances learnt including the ones they dance but I’ve not been taught in class. I also found another person there who does Ceroc. We were trying to persuade another person to try that too. I love talking about dancing!

Wednesday – had a much longer lie in than planned. Because I’d not been able to get petrol the night before, I decided against doing 2 visits in one day. Instead I stayed locally and visited Broughton Grange Gardens which is only open on Wednesdays. It’s a beautiful place to wander around, and not massively busy.

Thursday – day of sorting bits out. N went off to clean cars, while I finally dropped off some stuff for the charity shop. I think they’re running out of space there, but they never say no to anything. Then to the farm shop for some meat to put in the slow cooker for tea. Did some blogging before back into town for my hair appointment. I’d had it in my head (and phone calendar) it was 3.30, but luckily I’d headed in a bit early as they called me as I was just parking. Turns out it was a 3pm appointment. Oops.

Friday – N was off finishing car washing in the morning. I had a hygienist appointment. It was a new person because the other has gone on maternity leave. She was lovely, and less violent than the other. It now costs £85 which makes me want to cry. It would be cheaper to just do the dentist every 6 months, rather than annually with the hygienist. But if it helps my teeth and gums, I guess it’s worth it. I had a bit of a headache, so relaxed watching Clarkson’s Farm in the afternoon.

Saturday – optician’s appointment for N and all ok. We then went to the smart menswear place to see about hiring a suit for N for an august wedding we’re going to. He’s at the inbetween child/adult size so they advised waiting til about 3 weeks before for a final measure. I can’t believe to hire suit and trousers it’ll be £80, (plus we’ll buy a shirt/tie, and he’ll have to use new school shoes for it). The shop were really good and said we’d be able to obviously get a cheap suit from somewhere like Matalan (I reckon Next would be a similar price to hiring but all the trousers are skinny fit which he doesn’t usually wear, plus we’d have to faff ordering online for his age). But the navy suit they had in was nice, so we might just hire it anyway.

New posts this week:

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • being on holiday! Even if it was just a short break.
  • having a hair cut – it was well needed
  • time off work (although I have been checking in on my emails)

Things I’m grateful for this week:

  • time spent with N on holiday
  • finally seeing my bestfriend after so long
  • good traffic back from Cornwall, leaving enough time to get to dancing as well.

  1. Sounds like you had a lovely time away. The seawater lido sounds like a fun thing to try even if it was a bit cold! That’s good that your new hygienist was a bit gentler even if the price did make you want to cry. Good luck with sorting out a suit for N. #project365

  2. Enjoyed reading about your trip to Penzance and Land’s End. You’re brave people to swim in the Jubilee Pool at this time, though to be fair the water is never particularly warm in that part of Cornwall. Glad you trip home went faster than the trip there.
We love St Michael’s Mount, and have visited it a few times, such fantastic views.

  3. St Michael’s Mount is on my to-visit list, but it will not happen this year, so it will remain on the list for at least another year.
You did great to go dancing after arriving home tired. Well done!

  4. Glad you both had a lovely time in Cornwall, phew that was some drive home. Suit hire sounds like a lovely idea for a wedding, always look smarter than a shop bought one, at least he’ll get wear out of the new shoes afterwards.

  5. I love visiting Cornwall; it’s so beautiful, but it’s such a long journey, so we haven’t been for years. It sounds like you had a lovely time. I can imagine how cold that swim was, though.
What a busy week you’ve had. I don’t know how you had the energy to go dancing as well.
That’s expensive for a suit hire, but I imagine it would cost a lot more to buy new, and he might not get enough wear out of it, so hiring makes more sense.

    1. The hire place were really good. Gave me all his measurements, and said they wouldn’t be offended if we bought somewhere cheaper – Matalan has suits super cheap, but then I have no chance for him to try them on by the time I’ve ordered, paid for delivery then potentially paid for returns, and still not have one that fits. Next might be a possibility, but they’re all skinny trousers and he just wants regular. But there’s no point buying a suit for 1 event when he’ll keep growing. And if jacket and trousers are odd sizes, it wouldn’t make it easy to sell on on Vinted or somewhere.

  6. It sounds like a great break away! The swimming sounds like an experience.
Good on you for going dancing after being away. No wonder you had a lie in the next day. x
